Fun fact: Extension can be stressful.
I know- you’re shocked! Dismayed perhaps. The reality is some of the stress is very real, and some is really self-driven. I guess what I’m trying to say is- folks, sometimes we just do these things to ourselves.
Check out this April 2001 Journal of Extension Article: Removing the Tension from Extension for some great thoughts on self- and stress-management. Some of my favorites include:
- Develop hobbies away from extension.
- Take responsibility for your own destiny and develop the skills you need (Saying, “no one taught me how to….” is not an excuse).
- Is it not possible to continually pursuing new projects without discontinuing some old ones.
- It is not possible to know it all.
- LISTEN!
The article is a fast read, and has some great advice. What are your favorite suggestions?
