New Year’s Resolution #1: More Fun in the Workplace

My name is Stacey, and I am a quote hoarder.

I love motivational quotes. Right now as I look at the post-its surrounding my desk, I have:

“Be so good they can’t ignore you.”

“No reserves, no retreats, no regrets.”

and…

“Mediocrity is not tolerated.”

However, my absolute favorite…the one I hope which any young person I have ever worked with will remember (and hear internally like a broken record),

“Work hard, play hard.”

There were a lot of reasons for which I wanted to work in 4-H Youth Development.  Predictably, I wanted to “make a difference”  and to “give back” but I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that I also wanted work to be FUN!  Apparently, I’m not the only one.

Companies such as Google have latched onto evidence that fun in the workplace actually improves productivity by exercising creativity, relieving stress, and building a sense of community.    Zappos.com has embraced this idea with their core value, “create fun and a little weirdness.”

What about you?  How do you “create fun and a little weirdness” in your program?

Happy 2015!  Make it a fun one!
